Peace be with you
Ephesians 5: 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and He is the Savior of the body.
We often hear sermons about this Scripture at weddings when the couple is prepared for the journey of marriage. When I was asked to speak about submission at my daughter’s bridal shower God revealed a lot to me about submission.
Society’s attitude towards the subject of submission is somehow negative, in my opinion, it is misunderstood. Yes, it is something that is against your will. But the Bible teaches us that when we accept Jesus as Lord and our Savior we no longer live for ourselves but for Him. We submit to His will. Also part of the Lord’s Prayer says ‘thy will be done on earth.’
I am however very encouraged by the understanding that submission comes with benefits. James 4:7 tells us that when we submit to God and resist the devil he will flee from us, that is the benefit. Jeremiah 17:10 says that The Lord examines the mind and each person will be rewarded according to their conduct, this is the benefit. I love Job 22:21 when it says submitting to God will give you peace and in this way, prosperity will come to you, this is a benefit and many more.
Jesus Christ demonstrated submission by going through persecution to death, in order for us to be saved. 1Peter 5:6 says when we humble ourselves before God, in due time we will be lifted. I choose to submit at all costs, the benefits are far greater.
