*Let your works gives you a name*

Who are you? How do you want people to call you? James the author of the book of James in the bible identified himself as the servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Jewish tradition identified the author as James the half-brother of Jesus. He was the leader of the church in Jerusalem. However, he did not mention his blood relationship with Jesus nor his senior position in the church in the whole book but identifies himself as a bondservant of Jesus Christ. A bondservant was a servant with no rights and privileges.

As we shall see in the next days and weeks, the author talks to the people about the “How to’s..” of life. Mainly how to live a Christian life under difficult circumstances. It is a practical book dealing with practical issues of life.  The practical advice includes a relationship between faith and works. Your works should prove the faith you have and the person you are. Giving yourself beautiful names, having high positions in organizations and churches does not make you a better person without works. You should prove the person you are and the faith you have by the works you do. Don’t just give yourself nice labels and big Christian leadership titles, but your work should prove that you are the person you call yourself.

Let your works tell the story about you, let the outcomes of your works give you titles, don’t just give yourself titles.

See how James identifies himself in James 1:1 ESV  “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes in the Dispersion: Greetings.”
