When Abraham wanted his son to get a wife, he had a clear instruction for the servant that he sent. The servant was to go and get a wife for his son from his home country, and not to the land where he was staying. Abraham consider his home country good for getting a wife but not good for staying. On the other hand the land of Canaan was good for staying but not good for getting a wife for his son.
When making critical life decisions, it is important to separate between what is good for life journey and what is good for business. Doing good business with a person does not mean you can get into life journey with him or her. The beliefs, faith, and values are more important and should not be compromised when choosing a person for life’s journey. You need to honestly evaluate your candidate’s commitment to the faith that you have in Christ before making commitment to take a long journey with him or her. You need to walk your journey with those who believe.
Gen 24:3-6 Says “that I may make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell, (4) but will go to my country and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son Isaac.” (5) The servant said to him, “Perhaps the woman may not be willing to follow me to this land. Must I then take your son back to the land from which you came?” (6) Abraham said to him, “See to it that you do not take my son back there.”
