Gen 39:2 The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man.
Joseph was placed in a slave market and brought down to Egypt. As a slave in Egypt, Joseph had no support from family, no relatives, no friends, and no connections. In terms of Egyptian system, Joseph was in a foreign country without legal identity documents; he was a poor slave and he was illiterate. Joseph had no money; he did not own any property. He had no education and he was unemployed. It is at this point in time that the Bible says, “the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man”.
Success is not about WHAT you have; success is about WHO you have. The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man! Families and friends are not the ones that make you a successful person. Money and education are not the ones that make you a successful person. You can have big families and many friends; you can be highly educated and have lots of money – but if the LORD is not with you, you are not a successful person. If you think you are successful because of the materials and the skills that you have – you are deceived. The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man!
Success by God’s standard is not success by the world’s standard. Success is knowing and doing what the LORD says. Success is determined by our faithfulness to the LORD.
