1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Peace be with you.
Do you know God? This is a very easy question with an easy answer “yes” for anyone who is a Christian. But when you ask the same question in the context of the above verse you realize that it is not a simple one. It would appear that there is a prerequisite to claiming knowing God that is to love. This means that loving is all you need to do then your answer will be a definite yes.
The next question then is do you love? The Bible speaks of three different types of love, Eros, Philos, Storge and Agapé love. Agapé love is what this verse refers to, this is love for mankind and it is sacrificial love. This is the kind of love God commands you to show to others.
Please read John 3:16 For God so loved the world….Matthew 22:37 … “’Love the Lord your God… James 2:8…, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” …and Matthew 7:12 so, in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. The above verses speak to you as a Christian.
Here is another question how do you fulfill this commandment? Have you confessed with your mouth that you do not love so and so? How about God Himself, have you been so frustrated and doubted your love for God? If so, does that mean you have failed to fulfill God’s command? It is true that practicing Agapé love is not easy yet we are commanded to do it. And so we must do it or else we do not know God.
1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Do you know God?
God bless you.
