A dictionary definition of integrity: firm in your moral principle, quality of being honest, and having strong moral principle.
Life is a journey and life is also about making choices which we may later admire or regret. Furthermore, life has its own stages and life has events (good or bad) that happen as we journey along the stages of life. Some choices we make in life and some events that happen in life cannot be erased but remain with us permanently – they cannot be hidden.
So, it is advisable to open up from the onset about life choices and events that may somewhat impact this life stage called marriage. This may be done before you say “I DO” and opening up on issues (honesty) should also be a lifestyle in a marriage relationship because hidden truth has a way of cropping up with time.
I choose not to make examples of choices we make in life and events that happen in life as they are unique and differ from person to person. But, when unspoken life choices and events emerge, they have the potential of creating a serious crack in a marriage relationship called mistrust.
I found the following passages of Scripture interesting in relation to the subject we are addressing today:2 Corinthians 8:21″ For we take thought beforehand and aim to be honest and absolutely above suspicion, not only in the sight of the Lord but also in the sight of men .”
Proverbs 11:3 “Honesty guides good people; dishonesty destroys treacherous people.”
The principle of honesty or integrity may be a determining factor for the principle of Trust, which we shall be elaborating on during our next talk.
HONESTY/INTEGRITY.
