Obeying God’s commands or laws and the righteousness of God are closely linked. A person with the righteousness of God obeys God’s commands. The righteousness of God is about doing what God approves and this is in line with obeying what God commands. Pharisees and scribes of the time of Jesus were the people entrusted with keeping the law. Most of them were known for keeping only those areas of law that seem to be easy and neglecting those that seem to be difficult. Furthermore keeping the law was an external show and performance, but their hearts were far away from what they were doing. They were more concerned with what the people say more than what God approved.
Some people organize spectacular events, give themselves big titles that relate to God and church, but their hearts are far away from God. When you work so hard for people’s approval and neglect the approval of God you are not worthy of heaven. Your righteousness needs to come out of the good heart not an outward effort to impress people and get them to applaud you. You need to work to please God more than people. Jesus told his disciples that unless their righteousness exceed that of Pharisees and Scribes, they would not enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:20).
The bible in Mat 5:20 CEV Says “You must obey God’s commands better than the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law obey them. If you don’t, I promise you that you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.”
Seek God’s approval.
