In the book of Hebrews 11:1 faith is defined as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (ESV). When you ask anything from God, you should have faith, confidence, assurance, and trust that what you are asking for will be granted by God. You should not doubt, or start trusting in the world or your natural abilities.
Your previous failures or painful circumstances might tempt you to doubt God and prepare a plan B in case God does not grant what you have requested. Such plan B proves that you do not trust God for an answer. Anything that you put as an alternative or option for in case God does not answer you becomes a god in itself. If you put your trust in your money, your natural abilities, other people, or the world, they become a god to you. God does not want to compete with other gods in you. You need to have trust, assurance, and conviction in him alone, then whatever you ask for will be granted. After asking God for something in faith, you should walk in faith. That means you should act in confidence as a person who has already received it. Start working as a person who has received what you have been asking for in faith.
The bible in
James 1:6-8 ESV (6) says “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. (7) For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; (8) he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
