Most of the good or bad things happening to you today are a result of the previous decisions and actions that you took in the past. Similarly, some actions we take today will propel us to the future of goodness while some actions may lead us to the future of hardship and difficulties. While sometimes bad things can happen to you, not as a result of your previous actions, a majority of what will happen to you in the future will be affected by the choices and actions you make. The question, therefore, is, “What can I do today that can make my future the better future that I desire? James proposes that wisdom is what you need, and advises that you should ask God for it (James 1:5). He further assures that if you ask for wisdom from God, He will generously give to you.
One of the definitions of wisdom from Webster’s dictionary is that it is “The right use or exercise of knowledge”. Circumstances that we come across every day require us to make decisions and take action. You need to act in order to do good or to avoid evil. Your knowledge and previous experience should provide you with various options, and wisdom will guide you on what is the best in each occasion. In as much as you do not know what will happen today which will force you to act, you need to pray for God’s wisdom so that you can act correctly. This means that one of the prayer items you need to make every day is to ask for the wisdom of God so that you can make the right decisions and take the correct action. See the scriptures in James 1:5 ESV (5) “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”
Ask for wisdom.
