No one can be made right with God by the good works he does. It is through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that a person is made right with God not by the works he does. God is more interested in the personal relationship you have with him than the works you do. Keeping the ten commandments, and doing good works for the people around you mean nothing to God without the relationship.
Doing good and being a good person is good, but cannot earn you a relationship with God. Relationship with God is established when you have faith and accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior. You then become the child of God.
See what the scripture says in
Galatians 2:15-18 ESV (15) “We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; (16) yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. (17) But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! (18) For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor.”
*Have faith in Jesus Christ*.
