Most people who live will one day die. Abraham understood the fact that he was going to die one day, and started putting his house in order. At the end of his life Abraham had eight children. He gave all that he had to Isaac who was the child of the promise, and gave gifts to other children. He sent all the other children away from Isaac while he was still alive. Abraham prepared, mentor his successor, Isaac and made things easy for him by sending away from him his other children while he was still alive. This would ensure smooth succession after his death as there would be no fight among his children.
How are you preparing for you succession? Who will do what you are doing when you are no longer available, or you can no longer do it? If you love the work you do, you should prepare other people to do it when you can no longer do it for whatever reasons. One of the reasons that may stop you doing what you are busy with is promotions of various forms. Start preparing your successors while everything is still good, then it will be easy for your successor to carry on with the work, when you are no longer available. There should be no confusion and fights about your inheritance when you are no longer there. Prepare your successors on time.
Gen 25:5-6 Says “Abraham gave all he had to Isaac. (6) But to the sons of his concubines Abraham gave gifts, and while he was still living he sent them away from his son Isaac, eastward to the east country.”
