After all the discussions, debates, dialogues and argument has been made, a decision need to be made and action need to be taken.
How do you make effective decisions and implement the correct action?
Most great people admits that some of the decisions they made were poor and wrong? This happen even though the public had regarded them as perfect and without errors. While the devil, bad luck and other people can be blamed for our misfortune and difficult circumstances, most of our current circumstances are as a result of the decisions that we made in the past. We can note that the decision we make today cannot change what happen in the past, but may affect the current day if there is still time, but most importantly it should shape the future to the one we desire. The actions we take today will affect our future.
The question therefore is, what decisions and actions should we take today to improve the outcomes of our future towards the future that we desire?
For each circumstance you need to know your role and decide how to decide. Deciding to cooperate or not to cooperate with people will affect your future relationship with them. Whether you are the boss or the subordinate, you need to mind your words and how you deal with people around you. Some decision and actions can be taken through the following methods:
- Consensus. You can use consensus when you want a full support of everyone, and you don’t have ability to force them to cooperate. It might take longer to reach such decisions, and persuasive skills might be needed.
- Voting. The fastest way of making decision when the group is big and the opinions varies is through voting. In this case, losers are forced to abide by the winning votes.
- Consultation. You need to consult when you feel that you are in the position of making decision, but you don’t have enough information or you lack expertise in certain areas. You then get people who are the specialist to advise you before making your decision.
- Command and control. In emergency, you do not want to waste time you want to implement something urgently. Even those who differ need to abide by this decision. When implementing decision through command and control, you need to have mechanism to deal with those who disobey, or you need to have ability to enforce cooperation.
Having good ideas, and lot of good information, even debate after debate does not change anything if no decision is made and no action is taken. Make decisions, take action and move forward.
