Matthew 5:30 (AMPC) And if your right hand serves as a trap to ensnare you or is an occasion for you to stumble and sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better that you lose one of your members than that your entire body should be cast into hell (Gehenna).
The above passage sounds like and an exaggeration, cutting your hand off? When Jesus taught his disciples he was preparing them for eternal life. He knew that this would not be an easy journey for them. In His teachings He did not say things in order to gain favor but the truth that would set them free.
We Christians are members of one body (1 Corinthians 6:15) and we need each other however this passage above says eliminate the body part that will cause you to lose your eternal life. People around us can become obstacles in living a holy life. Your fellow brother is exposed to the tricks of the devil as you are. That is why it is important to stand on the truth, the Word of God and shut him off when he allows the evil influence. You must always fight to show the goodness of Gospel as an ambassador of Christ. In Matthew 16:23 23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me. Anything or anyone that seeks to bring weakness in your faith you must eliminate it. For the sake of your eternal life I encourage you to stand firm like the three young men in Babylon who refused to bow before the statue and disregard God. (Daniel 3)
What or who do you need to eliminate today?
