Matthew 7:12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
It is human nature to do good to people. It is easy to do good to your family members, when in a good mood, when it is convenient, and when you expect something in return. There are however people who allow evil to rule their lives. They fail to do good, to the lowest level where they actually take someone’s life.
Matthew 7 commands that in everything, in all situations, to all people we respond and react in a way that we will be happy when it is done to us. People will not always treat us the way we want, this is likely to force us to do the same to them. That would however be out of God’s will and teachings. So when people treat you unkindly make sure you continue to treat them well.
The following scriptures also encourage us,
1) Matthew 5: 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
2) Romans 12:19 Do not take revenge,…it is written: “It is mine to avenge; …. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.
This is a command and not a choice and therefore if you are a born-again child of God you must do it regardless of what people around you do. Doing good starts with you.
