PAUL – CHOSEN, BLESSED, BROKEN, AND GIVEN TO THE WORLD BY GOD
Luke 24:30
30 When he was at the table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.
Paul was a Pharisee. He studied and mastered Jewish history, the Psalms, and the works of the prophets under the famous Rabbi Gamaliel. Paul went on to become a lawyer, and all signs pointed to him becoming a member of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish Supreme Court of 71 men who ruled over Jewish life and religion. But PAUL WAS CHOSEN BY GOD (Acts 9:15-16)! When God chose Paul, He separated him from the Pharisees. Paul was now rejected by the Sanhedrin.
After God had chosen Paul, GOD BLESSED HIM! God healed Paul and filled him with the Holy Spirit (Acts 9:17). God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, revealed His mysteries to Paul. God revealed to Paul the mystery of godliness (1 Tim 3:16), the mystery of Israel’s Salvation (Rom 11:25), the mystery of Christ (Eph 3:4; Col 3:27), the mystery of the Church (Eph 3:6), the mystery of the Headship of Christ (Eph 5:32), the mystery of the Church being changed (1 Cor 15:51), the mystery of lawlessness (2 Thess 2:7). Paul became a steward of the mysteries of God (1 Cor 4:1).
After God had blessed Paul, GOD BROKE HIM! God gave Paul a thorn in the flesh to keep him boasting about great mysteries that were revealed to him. Paul prayed to God three times, asking for this thorn to be removed. But God said to Paul, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness (2 Cor 12:7-9). Your brokenness is there to reveal the perfect power of the living God.
After God had broken Paul, GOD GAVE HIM TO THE WORLD! God used Paul in a marvelous manner. Paul was not a disciple of Jesus, but more than 50% of the NT was written by him. While the other Apostles were only preaching to the Jews in Jerusalem, Paul preached to the Gentiles and moved Christianity from exclusive to inclusive membership. Paul made 3 long missionary journeys and planted churches throughout the Roman Empire. Paul is the most important person after Jesus in the history of Christianity.
