It is some pains that lead to divorce, but there are more pains that it causes. Some divorce happens after a lot of abuse, disagreements, unfaithfulness by one partner or both, or loss of interest and commitment by one partner. Whatever the cause might be, people go through pains before they divorce and most of the time more pains after it. Divorce does not only affect people directly involved but also those around them, especially if children are also involved.
The message from the Lord Jesus Christ is that divorce should be avoided as much as possible unless some terrible sexual sin is involved (Matthews 5:32). Even though sexual sin is bad in itself, not all sexual sin should lead to divorce. Marriage should be protected, defended, rescued, and saved from all forms of attacks. Divorce should not be seen or used as an easy way out, but more effort should be put to save the marriage. Divorce should be a last resort when nothing made to save marriage works.
The bible in Mat 5:31-32 CEV says “You have been taught that a man who divorces his wife must write out divorce papers for her. (32) But I tell you not to divorce your wife unless she has committed some terrible sexual sin. If you divorce her, you will cause her to be unfaithful, just as any man who marries her is guilty of taking another man’s wife.”
Protect, defend and save the marriage.
