*Parenting (1)*

Genesis 21: 14 … He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba.

Hagar was Sarah’s maidservant. When Sarah doubted God’s promise of a child, she advised Abraham to have a child with Hagar.  When Sarah was later blessed with her own child she told her husband to chase out Hagar and her son Ishmael.

Parenting is a huge and difficult responsibility. Single parenting is even more challenging, Hagar was rejected by her employer and the father of her child. She had no shelter, no money, and no support. She was deeply hurting.

Parents who face rejection are likely to develop anger and hostility. It is therefore easy to find a parent taking out his or her frustration towards children. Ephesian 6: 4 Fathers do not exasperate your children; … (NIV) Even under unfavorable conditions you still have a responsibility to bring our children with love.

Prayer: Heavenly Father you opened Hagar’s eyes and she saw the well and gave water to Ishmael, let me see all opportunities that will help me to bring my children in the manner you expect me to, amen.
